If you caught Dua Lipa’s most recent interview—for the New York Times no less—you might notice sth a lil different. The singer, fresh off the release of her second album Future Nostalgia appears from a distance, with a relatively fresh face, complete with a nude lip and subtle eye. Like many before her, Dua Lipa is joining the ranks of celebrities who do their own makeup.
The photos show off a more tender side of the singer, who had a pretty meteoric rise off the back of her hit “New Rules” and her incredibly successful eponymous album. Coronavirus and the mandated lockdowns and social distancing really is seeping into everything. In the fash and beauty world, friends of Syrup are making like Dua Lipa’s photographer and having to conduct editorial shoots from afar, models are doing their own makeup, and pieces are being pulled from local designers because warehouses off-shore can no longer easily send clothes around.
It did spark the thought though: celebrities who do their own makeup over the full glam squad team are becoming more and more common. If you needed some inspiration to pick up a brush and have a play (not for your zoom call, this is meditative self care just for you) here’s a list of the gals doing it for themselves.
It wouldn’t be a list of celebrities who do their own makeup without IRL angel and absolute honey Zendaya. She’s even joked that she should do her own makeup tutorials (PLEASE!!).
The Riverdale cutie and face of COVERGIRL learnt how to do makeup in the same way sooo many of us did: the YouTube tutorial. Who remembers the glory days of Michelle Phan, welp, that’s who Reinhart learnt from.
A tru Hot Girl For Bernie, EmRata’s been known to do her own makeup for events, red carpets and TV appearances. That said, she does have quite a decent face to work on, so we can imagine it’d be pretty fun.
Given she’s literally created her own makeup line, “Rosie For Autograph” it should come as no surprise that Rosie HW often does her own makeup. You can watch her one of her cute tutorials here.
While she’s also super comfy going straight up makeup-free, Halsey is another fav celebrity who does her own makeup. As for why she’s into it? The singer told ELLE that “being able to do my own makeup myself has brought me to autonomy and self love.” Big mood.
For her more avant-garde looks Miss Gaga does work her long-time collaborator makeup artist Sarah Tanno. However, when she’s not making big appearances, the multi-talent singer and actress does her own signature black eyeliner, lashes and lips. Classics are classics for a reason after all.
Uber cool, icy German queen Diane Kruger does her own makeup for her red carpet events, because of course she does. “I try to not overdo it and let the dress do all the talking,” she told Violet Grey, “I’m really not into contouring and heavy foundation, but I have a pretty thick brow naturally and find that it gives me a lot of character.”
Blake Lively is another celeb whose comfy around a makeup brush, again having learnt from the best in the biz. “I like doing my own makeup and hair for events.” she told The Cut, “I think it’s fun.”
Look, considering she’s worn the same look (winger liner) for about as long as she’s been in the public eye, is it any shock that Alexa does her own makeup? The Brit It-girl is the definition of knowing what works on your own face the best.
It’s true, even the queen herself does her own makeup. The singer’s makeup artist, Sir John, told People that B often does her own makeup for events. Not only that she also cuts and dyes her own hair from time to time. Over to you for that isolation haircut.
