2020 Energy: Auli’i Cravalho Just Used A TikTok To Come Out As Bisexual

Auli’i Cravalho came out as bisexual in a TikTok video and I, for one, am here for this energy.

Cravalho is the title star of Disney’s 2016 film Moana (read: she’s a literal Disney princess), but she’s also deeply 19-years-old and bored in the house and in the house bored. Like… all of us currently residing on planet earth. So what else is a bi-queen gonna do with her time but make perfectly lip-synced TikTok videos? In the video posted to her TikTok, she lip-syncs to Eminem’s “Those Kinda Nights,” focusing specifically on the “she said” section of the lyrics:

Seriously though, jokes aside, how you doin’? You straight?
She said, “No, I’m bi”
She said, “Are you drunk?”, I said, “No, I’m high”
I’m checkin’ out the chick, she said, “So am I”

While it’s probably not the first time someone’s publicly come out via TikTok, it’s one of the most low-key and amusing ways we’ve seen so far. Fans of Cravalho checked the news with the actress on Twitter too, because as we know just because something is implied doesn’t mean it’s verified.

Does anyone else remember that era of YouTube when one after another, comedians, beauty gurus, and Olympic swimmers posted confessional, raw coming out videos—Tyler Oakley, Ingrid Nilsen and Tom Daley for those who missed it. Queer representation—that isn’t just tragedy porn—is a battle on all fronts, and it’s no different on our more homegrown low-fi modes of media. There is ofc, no wrong or right way to come out (if you even feel you need to at all) but maybe the tide is turning slightly from videos that focus only on the isolating and draining experiences of queer youth.

We wait in anticipation of Auli’i Cravalho’s take on the below bisexual meme:
