Raise your hand if you’ve wanted to reach out to someone you left in the past during coronavirus isolation. Maybe it was a once-close friend. Or a lover from that weird phase of your life where you moved to London/Berlin/LA. Bella Hadid’s had the same compulsion apparently.
The urge to reconcile with emotionally distant figures from past lives is perhaps one that is heightened during a time of increased physical distancing. Or maybe it just feels like the world is going to shit and if the aliens wipe us out, nobody wants bad blood in the afterlife.
In a pretty definitive move—the model has refollowed singer Selena Gomez on Instagram this weekend. In the 2020 styles of human communication, this is pretty much akin to signing the Treaty of Versaille. It’s over, the drama/war/feud is done, everyone can pack it in and go home.
In case you missed one of the highest-profile romantic triumvirates in recent years, the Hadid and Gomez animosity began when Selena began dating Hadid’s ex, The Weeknd. Hadid and The Weekend had broken up in November 2016, so look, I feel like it’s kinda understandable Gomez and The Weeknd’s relationship going public in January 2017 would sting a little bit? This was when Hadid unfollowed Gomez.
Regardless of how you feel about this constituting a “feud”—not everyone has to like (or follow) everyone and that’s okay!—fans are happy to see that whatever hatchet was there appears to be buried. As the timeline goes: Gomez and The Weeknd split in October 2017, after which he reunited with Hadid before ultimately parting ways again in August 2019.
That said, it sounded relatively amicable, a source told E! at the time that “They hope to get back together at one point but for now are focusing on themselves and their projects.” Gomez has also been pretty supportive of the mutual ex, recently including The Weeknd’s music on some of the quarantine playlists she has shared.
Amongst all this, Gomez first refollowed Hadid back in November 2019. Since then, Hadid’s liked a pic here and there on the singer’s Instagram and with the recent refollowing, we guess it’s all pretty much squared away? TMZ reported last year that Hadid, “actually went out of her way to reach out to Selena […] to squash any potential beef.” It makes sense Hadid’s only here for positive energy, given the incumbent Gigi and Zayn baby.
Mutual follows? Check. “Beef” squashed? Check.
