Last week, after watching the Snatch Game episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12, I scrolled through post-episode discussion threads on Reddit, and came across this:

Originally, I laughed it off as a simple joke. But, after episode seven, “Madonna: The Unauthorised Rusical,” and looking back on Gigi’s run so far… I think they might be onto something.

FYI, Gigi Goode is the frontrunner of S12 RN

In the first half of the two-part season premiere, when the other girls asked Gigi Goode what she’s best known for and she said, “name something,” she wasn’t lying. We’ve seen her sew incredible garments, do flips and cartwheels with ease, be a natural improv comedian with one of the most unique Snatch Games in the series’ history and be up to par with Widow Von’Du in a lip-sync for your legacy.

Basically, she excels at practically every challenge and has not once shown that she wasn’t the complete package. And, while some of the judging this season has been a bit off (still not over Rock M. Sakura being eliminated so the Aiden Zhane and Britta Filter storyline could continue…), you can’t deny Gigi’s charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent. I still feel like Jan deserved to win this week – her outfit was more distinctly Michelle Visage and she looked exactly like how Michelle did in the “Glamazonian Airways” episode of season 7 – but Miss Goode still excelled in this challenge and nearly every other once prior.

She’s undeniably the frontrunner right now, currently sitting with three wins, a top 2 placement, and yet to lip-sync for her life or even be in the bottom two. After her, the next big frontrunner is, sadly, Sherry Pie (who doesn’t even really count tbh), then Jackie Cox, Jaida Essence Hall and Widow Von Du.

As one fan wrote in a post on Eleganza, an Australian RuPaul’s Drag Race Facebook group, “can someone hand Gigi her crown and cash prize already…”

And, she’s had the best track record in the show’s history

Three wins and no bottom placements when we’re already halfway through the season? Slay.

Being in the top two in the season premiere in a rap challenge judged by *the* Nicki Minaj? That’s a slay.

Winning the Ball, Rusical AND Snatch Game against seasoned broadway queens and designers? Winner winner, three chicken dinners.

And, doing it all only at 21 years old? Not only is it some king shit but she might as well take Aquaria’s crown because she’s the new young queen who shouldn’t be underestimated in this show.

For real, if Gigi Goode continues to succeed, either lands in the top 3, gets another challenge win or doesn’t land in the bottom two at all, she’ll have the best track record in the show’s history. That alone already tells me she’s going to make it to the finale, spoilers or not. She’s undeniably a star.

Looking at the current track record of the queens and the way they’re edited, it feels like SP will unfortunately join her, along with Jaida Essence Hall and either Crystal Methyd or Jackie Cox (I’m crossing my fingers and toes for Heidi’N’Closet tbh). And, with Sherry Pie disqualified, we could very well see that being the top four.

And if that’s the case, Gigi really will be the quintessential RuPaul’s Drag Race queen. I mean, even Alaska Thunderfuck, Sharon Needles and Jinx Monsoon were in the bottom at some point. Bianca didn’t have this many varied wins in season six. Even Aquaraia, once landed in the bottom three in “Cher: The Unauthorized Rusical.”

And, yes, just because she’s had such a good track record so far doesn’t mean she’s definitely going to win. The last queen who had such an incredible run on the show and was the clear frontrunner of the season was Shea Coulee in season 9 and, sadly, we all know how that turned out. RIP to this rap-slaying queen’s crown.

It’s still hard to say how the show’s producers will handle the season finale. Whether it’ll come down to a lipsync for the crown or like the traditional top 3 finales from the first eight seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race we can’t confidently say until the producers announce it, but we can safely say that I’m placing my bets on Gigi being there. Periodt.

Plus, it’d be nice to finally have a queen who actually *was* the frontrunner of the season actually win for a change, instead of a surprise one.

That said, if Gigi Goode does end up winning RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12, that begs the next pressing matter: when can we see Widow Von’Du, Heidi’N’Closet, Crystal Methyd, Jaida Essence Hall, Jan and Rock M. Sakura back on our Stan screen in an All Stars season?
