With less than two days to wait, Megan Thee Stallion has just dropped the tracklist for her debut album Good News, arriving this Friday. Now, not to alarm you, but it’s basically a checklist of some of the best rappers in the game right now. The 17-strong tracklist features the likes of SZA, City Girls, Popcaan, Young Thug and Da Baby. Yes. New SZA music, it’s coming.
The album begins with the track “Shots Fired,” which one could guess is about rapper Tory Lanez—scum person who we’ve blacklisted on Spotify—shooting Megan earlier in the year. As well as working on her debut album, the rapper has also appeared a pointed SNL performance and penned a New York Times piece about why she continues to speak up for Black women.
[UPDATE 13th November 2020] Last month, rap queen and “WAP” songstress Megan Thee Stallion teased news of her upcoming debut EP, which had us here at Syrup HQ sweating. And now, the anime-loving artist just revealed exactly when we’ll get it: just in time for Hot Girl Summer. Brb, about to literally combust from this news fresh and hot off the presses.
In a tweet shared earlier this morning, Stallion said that after living “through such a rough year[,] I felt like we could all use a lil good news,” revealing her official album title as that, Good News. The tweet, which also btw casually mentioned the album is dropping next Friday, 20th of November, also came with a pic that could very well be the album cover. The pic in question featured Megan Thee Stallion standing in a glass cabinet and to the background of various newspaper clips about herself, sporting wild and curly bright red hair, heels and nothing but a newspaper spread of herself to cover her body, and a fun-loving smile. It really is some bloody Good News.
[ORIGINAL 29th October 2020] It’s nearly Hot Girl Summer here in the Southern Hemisphere and with it comes a full debut EP from the HGS-originator herself, Megan Thee Stallion. Perfectly in time for crop top season.
The “Savage” rapper recently took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes clip of her in the studio recording a new fire track for her album. Dressed in a matching pink tracksuit fit and to a buzzing backing track, Stallion was spitting rap verses like they were nothing. Whatever this song is she’s working on, I need it in my Spotify playlists—STAT.
Later, she posted some pics posing in the studio with her producer, Lil Ju, adding “trying to pick the songs I think my hotties will like the most for my ALBUM.”
It’s unclear at this point when exactly Megan Thee Stallion’s album will drop but we can expect it ~soon~. According to Fader, the album is expected to release in the American Fall season (so our Spring so, like, within the next month). Stallion’s recent single, “Don’t Stop,” featuring Young Thug, was the first single from the new album.
When asked on Twitter how much longer the album is from being done, Stallion said, “waiting on two more features then I’m done 💁🏽♀️.” Then, according to PopCrave, when someone asked if rap duo City Girls would feature, Stallion had but one thing to say: “😈” meaning hell yeah dude!
As to who else will feature on Megan Thee Stallion’s debut album, whomst is to say right now. Earlier this year, the artist, who penned a letter about why you should protect Black women, worked with Beyoncé on a remix of “Savage,” and Cardi B for 2020’s anthem, “WAP.”
Looking at who is big in the music game right now, I would KILL to—and could plausibly—see the following artists appear: Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Chloe x Halle and SZA—a boy can dream! Or, we could see a collaboration between her and the Future President of the United States, Ariana Grande, especially after the release of the Grande’s new album.
