Here’s The Evidence A One Direction Reunion To Mark Their Ten Year Anniversary Might Really, Actually Be Happening

Good morning to everyone but especially to the One Direction fandom. In a non-biblical Easter miracle, Liam Payne has hinted that a One Direction reunion might really be on the cards.

“We’ve got a ten-year anniversary coming up so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice,” the singer told The Sun, before adding, “To hear a lot of people’s voices and seeing old content and different things that we haven’t seen for a long time or never seen before, it’s very interesting.” Yeah, it is interesting, Liam, now please tell us what y’all are doing on July 23rd (1D’s anniversary).

While he admitted he’s not sure what he’s allowed to say, Payne did reveal that “There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around. But more than anything it’s just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”

The news comes in a wave of recent stirrings, that has not gone unnoticed by the band’s fans. All of the former One Direction members and the band’s official account have re-followed Zayn Malik on Twitter (he split from the band in 2015, shortly before they broke up). He’s also now listed as “vocals” rather than “ex-member” on Google. The band’s website has been reactivated and all five of their albums are back on Apple Music, though it’s unclear when all this went down. 🤔

Between the incredible Twitter activity (the fandom recently hosted a hashtag isolation concert at #1DOnlineConcertStayAtHome) and the fact we could all welcome a wholesome distraction from the existential gulag of this pandemic, it seems more likely than ever a One Direction reunion could actually be on the cards.

Harry has also recently spoken about the potential reunion. In a radio interview on The Morning Mash Up on SiriusXM Hits 1, former One Direction member and current pearl-necklace wearer Harry Styles answered a question about a potential One Direction reunion. And while he answer isn’t very definitive, it doesn’t rule it out either.

The show’s host posited the socially distanced One Direction reunion to Styles casually: “I’m just going to throw this idea out there. What about hopping on a Zoom, with you and some of the 1D boys, and possibly, you know, doing a quick performance? I mean, it could be five minutes, but it would bring so much joy to so many people.”

Nearly any interview with the One Direction boys (the band was comprised of Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik) inevitably leads to the question of whether a reunion is on the cards. In spite of his increasingly commercially and critically successful solo work Styles doesn’t rule the idea out: “I don’t know if that’s the reunion we had in mind. I don’t know if that would be the way to do it,” he said, before adding, “I’ll have a quick whip-round.”

A quick whip-round? What we wouldn’t give for the screenshots of that conversation in the group chat. A Zoom-based One Direction reunion does seem the most likely way any kind of link-up would be happening right now, with most of us either under coronavirus lockdowns or at least living extremely socially distanced, if very online, lives. It is intriguing though that Styles mentions it’s not the reunion they had in mind, though. It could be nothing or it could have been a lil cryptic clue that maybe there were plans for something more substantial that the One Direction fandom could look forward to?

Other members of the band have also previously expressed that they’d be open to a One Direction reunion. Louis Tomlinson answered a query about its likelihood very positively last year: “I think it’s inevitable. When is the big question. That’s something none of us really know the answer to at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Liam Payne went down nostalgia lane in a YouTube video posted to his channel last week, chatting about the shenanigans the boys would get up to during their interviews, including secret codes that would get them out of doing tasks. Truly simpler times ;-;

If a One Direction reunion does happen, we’ll welcome it with open arms. In the meantime, there’s always these bizarre celebrity TikToks to tide us over.
