Okay, so during this whole self-isolation period, they’ve been a number of endearing TikTok trends to brighten up our tired af moods. First, we had the TikTok dance that helped you avoid catching Covid-19, then there was the World Health Organisation (WHO) initiative encouraging us to wash our hands, and, ofc, an Australian legend lip syncing to Scott Morrison’s coronavirus addresses.
And now folks, we have literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen on the platform. Srsly, I am on the verge of ugly happy tears, it’s so sweet.
I give you, what I’m calling, the unofficially dubbed #FlipTheCamera challenge.
What is this new cute af “Supalonely” by BENEE TikTok trend?
TikTok users are performing the TikTok dance to BENEE’s “Supalonely,” featuring Gus Dapperton, in front of their loved ones, letting them think their filming themselves but SECRETLY filming their reactions. And, from their boyfriends, parents, children and dogs, the responses are not only endearing and wholesome but they make me want to cry pure solid tears of joy.
Srsly, gang, they’re adorable af.
The trend first emerged when TikTok user AileenChristineee was in a video call with her boyfriend during their winter break in the U.S. Pretending to film herself dancing, she flipped the camera and caught his response. What follows is a man munching and crunching on his sandwich before watching the woman he loves dance, raising his hand like its an imaginary roof and bopping to her movements. Her biggest fan and supporter.
Parodies of TikTok’s newest dance reaction challenge
And, even though it’s still a pretty new trend, there are a number of relatable parodies to it already.
omg! I stole my boyfriends phone and secretly recorded his reaction to me dancing! 😍 i love this boy so much!♬ Supalonely (feat. Gus Dapperton) – BENEE
These next three to six months of self-isolation and social distancing are going to take a huge toll on our mental health and emotions. For many, we won’t be able to physically see those we love and care for for a looong time.
Perhaps, with Zoom hangouts and party games like Jackbox, the future of social interaction and affection is through videos like these. Or, we can just ignore the world and everyone else and play Animal Crossing, it’s really up to you.
