Ah, New Zealand. The antipodean cousin that is so tantalisingly close to Australia, yet so far. Blessedly COVID-19-free and living pretty normal lives while the rest of the world trudges through the longest year that has ever been known to man. While you might think they’re gearing up for an adventure junkie’s ideal season of summer sports, white-water rafting, or yeeting themselves off cliffs via a bungee cord, there’s a slightly different adrenaline rush on the cards.
Come the 9th of November, New Zealand will be the first country on this godforsaken planet to see the launch of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. ICYMI, alongside the forthcoming Playstation 5 console, the new Xbox Series X and S launches are set to be the biggest launches in gaming this year.
According to a press release, New Zealand’s Queenstown area was tapped to host the celebration (which will be livestreamed, of course) because it’s one of the only places in the world that “matches the visual fidelity of the next generation of Xbox consoles.” Mmm, you can also say because New Zealand deserves it, guys. And bc they’re one of the few pockets of the planet not riddled with the spectre of the pandemic and its ongoing ramifications.
What can fans expect from the Xbox “Greenstown” livestream? Xbox is debuting the first look at new gameplay, with snippets from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as Destiny 2: Beyond Light. There’s also slated to be appearances from big-name content creators in the Australian and New Zealand gaming community in the hour-long show.
