Look, according to the laws of search engine optimisation, I am going to write at least three hundred words about Kristen Stewart, the light of my life, remotely attending the Chanel Spring 2021 show. Which, on one level, amazing, what a bizarre existence this version of the simulation has afforded me. On the other, the adage goes that pictures are worth a thousand words. Surely, the equivalent word value of these pictures of Kristen Stewart at Chanel would be bolstered by my fevered thrusting of them at anyone who’ll look. I’m estimating a minimum $5,000 opening bid here.
As per the socially-distanced new world order, the pictures of Stewart at Chanel come courtesy of a remotely shot promo series. The likes of Park Soo-Joo, Margot Robbie, BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, G-Dragon (lol what?) and Stewart appeared in videos shared after the show to congratulate the Chanel team and share their impressions of the collection. In her video, Stewart gushes with authentic enthusiasm about the Chanel Spring show but the moment our hearts broke open with love? When she specifically congratulated Virginie Viard.
Viard, the designer at the helm, has stepped into the Chanel role after the passing of fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld. They are no small loafers to fill, irrespective of the man’s comments about women. Viard was a natural choice, having worked with Lagerfeld for decades but it’s still so gratifying to see a woman at the head of the house—the first since Miss Coco herself.
Anyway enough about her thoughtful kindness to Chanel’s creative director, back to the look. Stewart rocked a full Chanel Fall 2020 ‘fit, and she even gave us options for styling it with and without a jacket. Stewart nailed the perfect blend of crispy fresh tailoring juxtaposed with unexpected girliness, thanks to the white shirt and tie that gave way to a white miniskirt and white socks inside shiny black oxfords. Throwing the lace jacket on top? With the gloriously nonchalant hair? Stick a fork in me. I’m done.
If, you too, are realising you’re a Kristen Stewart simp after experiencing *Kristen Stewart at Chanel*, please be buoyed in the knowledge she has a new gay-ass holiday rom-com coming out with Mackenzie Davis. It’s called Happiest Season and until it’s out we’re streaming Clouds of Sils Maria on SBS on repeat.
